2024 Summer Field Schools
This past summer the SRC ran a 6 week program for youth in Middleburgh, NY, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. This program was open to elementary aged students in the Middleburgh School District.

We worked with Schenectady Connects to employ 6 teens in Schenectady to train with us over the summer to become Environmental Educators. The 6 week program covered water quality, invasive species, and general work to better the natural spaces throughout Schenectady and the surrounding area.

We also held our 4th Filmmaking Field School that took place in Schenectady from July 8th-July 12th. Meeting between Central Park and the Public Library, Students worked together to create their own short films.

From August 12th through the 16th, we had a week long STEAM Field School, open to ages 8-12yrs. This was held at the Schoharie River Center and focused on age appropriate STEAM related activities like STEAM in the kitchen, creek play, kayaking, blacksmithing, arts, and more...

Our final field school was held from August 19th through the 23rd, and was a week long Adventure Field School, open to ages 11-13. This focused on recreational activities like kayaking, swimming, biking, and hiking, along with some ecology based field studies.

Watershed Ecology and Videography
Summer 2020
This program integrates the study of forest ecology, watershed ecology, wildlife and invasive species monitoring, nature photography and videography and is led by experienced field biologists, video & media arts instructors. We will assess water quality, water chemistry and conduct macro-invertebrate analysis in the field. Participants will hike, bike and boat to get to various study sites throughout each weeklong field school.Watershed Ecology and Videography
Archaeology Field School
Summer 2020
Working alongside professional archaeologists, participants will conduct scientific research to uncover Schoharie County’s multilayered historical past as we excavate the site of a 1712 early colonial fortified homestead along the Schoharie Creek.
