Dear friends, SRC Alumni, supporters and neighbors,
I know you care about the future, and you are probably being flooded with information and requests for your support from many directions.
So why should you support the Schoharie River Center?
Well, if you or your family have been here, participated in any of our year-round Youth Development programs, Afterschool programs, Traditional Arts workshops, summer field schools, Mayfly Film Festivals or only hiked or fished our Riparian Nature Preserve on the Schoharie Creek? You know the answer to that question. The SRC’s work over the last 24 years, serving youth and families living in the Schoharie and Mohawk River Basin, has Impact. We improve the quality of life for youth, and their families, schools and communities.
Our programs engage youth and adults in community based experiential learning activities that connects them to their community through monitoring local ecology, documenting their community and culture, and developing new interests, skills, and friends.
Our reach and impact continues to expand as the Schoharie River Center has renewed our second NYS OCFS 5 yr contract to provide expanded learning programming afterschool and over summers for the Middleburgh School District. We love working in Middleburgh and appreciate all the community does to help our programs there be so successful.
We are also continuing our Environmental Literacy programming in the Schenectady Schools, and out of school through our Environmental Study Team/Urban Ecology program. As well as working with the City of Schenectady and our community partners (ECOS, UUNA and CFI) to create the Schenectady Environmental Education Center (SEEC), headquarterd at Central Park.
WE need your help in order to continue our work. The SRC is experiencing a serious budget short fall as we continue to wait for promised reimbursement by NYS. This year, more than ever we need the support of our local community.
Any donation in any amount is welcome and needed. We appreciate your support, and for those who can give $20 or more you will receive a hand-made block print of some of our favorite macro-invertebrate friends from the Schoharie. Created by Sam Bruckman (SRC Environmental Educator) each print, (4 in total) artistically depict a Stonefly, Mayfly, Caddisfly or Water Penny larva. Each block print is done by hand and is signed and numbered.
Anyone donating $100 or more will receive all four prints as well as a hand printed tote bag, a SRC family membership, and our sincere thanks and gratitude.
The Board of Directors of the Schoharie River center will also match your donations (up to $5700) with their donation to the SRC.
So please don’t wait, donate now, support the work of the Schoharie River and in return receive as our thanks some incredible prints and the personal satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference to those in your community.
-John McKeeby, SRC Executive Director
