About the Event
Learn to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind art by hand in the historic style of the "crazy quilt". Participants will make a "Crazy Quilt Heart" which can be framed. or incorporated into a wall hanging or pillow, journal cover, etc. Betty will teach you embroidery stitches and combinations to enliven seam work. Learn to apply beads, laces, trims and any 3-D pieces you may want to incorporate. Color, composition, texture and layers will all be considered to create interest and cohesive crazy quilt art.
All skill levels welcome.
Students need to bring the following:
A 10" square of muslin
Extra muslin to practice embroidery on
5 pieces of fabric for your heart, each piece at least 4" x 6"
Fine line fabric marking pen
Sewing and embroidery needles
An Embroidery hoop, if you use one
Embroidery floss and any laces, beads, or trim you want to use.
Class fee for this six-hour, 2 day class is
$120.00 for non-members
$100.00 for SRC members
About Betty Fikes Pillsbury
Betty Fikes Pillsbury is a multi-award winning textile artist and author of “Crazy Quilting – A Beginner’s Guide”. Her work has appeared in the White House, Fenimore Art Museum, Quilt Festival Houston, NQA, AQS, VQF, Road to California, and many other venues. She has appeared on Simply Quilts and several radio interviews. Betty has written for Piecework, Quilting Arts, Crazy Quilt Quarterly, etc. Laughter and learning go hand-in-hand in Betty’s workshops.
